SAEDA Convening @ UCLA

South Asian Experimental Dance Artists or SAEDA is Pavithra Vasudevan, Lionel Popkin, Parijat Desai, Meena Murugesan, Hari Krishnan, and Sujata Goel. This group of dance and performance makers has been gathering virtually for two years to discuss creative process and politics, share our journeys and work, and engage in creative play. In Spring we were supported by NCC Akron’s Dancing Labs. Now we embark on a series of convenings supported by the Andrew Mellon Foundation, the first to be held at UCLA.

Dancemaker Parijat Desai invites 2 special guests to the party—Soul Food scholar Adrian Miller and political organizer Sahana Mehta—to talk about African American food histories, the reinvigorated BLM movement, and how we can act in solidarity. Prior to the convo, she’ll play a mix of Black and desi musical artists, some topical, some danceable, some both.
